About this talk. In this 45-minute session, Kyabje Rinpoche provides step-by-step practical guidance for Vajrayoginī practitioners, bridging morning routines and profound philosophy. He covers mantra recitation adapted to ability levels, bathing and dressing rituals with deity visualization, making food offerings to the mandala within one’s body, and the core insight that ordinary actions become divine practice through imagination alone. He explains the completion stage framework and contrasts direct versus indirect teaching through an ocean analogy: merely describing a beach produces only a generic image, while directions to reach it yield complete understanding. Stories of masters like Milarepa reinforce that practice surpasses theory. Three analogies—woodcutter, butcher, magician—illustrate the importance of skillfulness. Pitched at practitioners who have received Vajrayoginī initiation.

She developed a motivation here that I shall attain enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings as soon as possible. For that purpose, I shall here listen to listen, meditate, contemplate, meditate on this teaching of this Mahāyāna teaching of Naropa Kagyu, which has the entire essence of the Chakrasamvara Tantra. Through this and yeah. Through this, I shall bring great help towards Buddhism and others. By finishing the eleventh yoga, eleventh yoga is composed or stated by the Pänchen Pema, now here we are on to, we have reached towards the second level, which is completion stage.
So yesterday we went we went through the the practice of mantra recitation and the verbal recitation. And during that, the practice done the two types of practice being set forth of the practice of practice performed by the sharp faculty and the lower faculty. So as for the sharp faculty, the verbal recitation is performed by visualizing the body, visualizing the mantra at the heart of the principal deity of the body mandala. And if it is hard for one to perform this practice, then with another practice, the lower faculty can do without So during the self generation practice, first one has visualized the body mandala and so forth. And afterward, while during the mantra recitation, one cannot, if one is not capable of visualizing all the, focusing on the mantra at the heart of the principal deity of the body mandala, then one can instead forgo meditating on body mandala.
One can dissolve all the body mandala into one, and at once her is the reality source with the triangular source, with the on top of that and then the mantra garland, etcetera, is from syllable. And then through this, one can perform the verbal recitation. And and if one does this, it it is it is more easier or likely yeah, more much easier than the previous one. And by forming the by finishing this practice, then one one should again meditate or visualize the body body mandala. So and early early morning, we take a bath or or wash in early in the morning.
And and so it it would be good if one performs the bath with visualizing oneself and by reciting a mantra with a mudrā and invoking or invoking or calling all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and receiving initiations. Imagine that you’re taking and then imagine that you’ve been taking by receiving the blessings, you you’ve been washed or cleaned. And then after after after wash, one puts on his or her clothes. And so as one is to visualize oneself as a generating oneself as a Vajrayoginī and should imagine that by putting clothes on it, imagine you are making offerings towards the Vajrayoginī. If one does this, then it has huge benefits of collecting the merits.
So you should make that offering by blessing it first with this mantra Om Ah Hum, and then put your clothes So so anything you perform, making offerings of food, cloth, should be performed with regenerating oneself as a Vajrayoginī, and at the heart is the BAM syllable, which one’s mind, and yeah, is the and in the nature or is the entire has to to on to on yeah. On it, all all the Buddhas of the 10 directions been dissolved. And so by and imagine by making all the I should offer all the food and so forth by by purifying or blessing with the Om Om Om mantra or. And then this, you you make all the offerings, and it’s very helpful of collecting the merits. So by making offering towards yourself generated as a Vajrayoginī, and it has very huge benefits of collecting the merits.
It is because this is the place, exact or the best place to yeah, place that you can make offerings and practice and collect the merits because oneself is the Vajrayoginī and and the entire the the channels and drops dwelt upon there are are located all the body mandalas. So they are all the deities all the deities. So by making offering and and, yeah, and pleasing them is the huge benefit for collecting merits. For the yeah. In the early days, people said that the Chakrasamvara has 62 deities.
And when he eats the momo, he eats 62 momos. It’s not a the momo size are not the size. Normally, small, maybe very small. And that is to making the offering each momo to the 62 deities. And one day, I mean, his attendants got only sixty one momos.
And he said, oh, it’s one absence, so I can’t make one I mean, I miss one I mean, offering to one deity. So likewise, the great master has said that I do meditation while I’m eating, and and also I do meditation while I’m sleeping. It is because because while he’s eating, he’s making offerings. And while he’s sleeping, he convert all the sleeping, he converts his sleep into the clear light. So due to that, he’s I mean, because of it, he said, I mean, every time.
I mean, I do meditation during sleeping as well as eating. So if we want to, we can do that as well. So to like those like those masters, we can we can perform the same practices because so by by by converting all the entire world systems and inhabitants into the deities father and mother consort of Heruka. Then by converting it, every any action we perform are actions of the the father and mother consort, the deity. And every speech we are every yes.
Yes. Speech we make or sound we make is the sound of the of making praise. And every thought we arises in our our mind are the thoughts of of the the thoughts of the father and mother deity, which are like the thoughts are in the nature adorned with the union of bliss and emptiness. So it is not that hard to perform this practice because the actions we describe are normal we do. So it’s the only that we need to do a slight change, which is to the change of imagination.
And the uncommon feature of the Heruka and the Vajrayoginī practice is that that while practicing in in tantric practice, they are the practice of generation completion stage. And the completion practice are also available within the or included within the generation practice generations practices of the Heruka and Vajrayoginī. Whereas in the Guhyasamāja Tantra, the the completion the practice of completion stage is not included in the generation stage. It is because during the practice of mantra recitation and meditating on the incidental first and second completion stages are included in the generation stage. Now we to we are on to completion stage, was the main second main subdivision from the beginning of the text, is the completion stage to attain the inner Dakini land.
And here, this, the the text of the root root root yeah. Root Heruka, Tantra has set forth there are the practices of there are many of sūtra, here refers to as the perfection vehicle and then the and the practices of four schools of tantra. Here, the action refers to action tantra. Performance is the performance tantra, and yoga is the yoga tantra. And the the last word word here uses the secret, the final secret practice, which is the highest yoga highest yoga tantra practice.
So and and and with and within the highest yoga tantra, it is classified into two, the father and the mother tantra. And among the mother tantra teachings or the practices tantra, the Chakrasambhara tantra is considered to be the most supreme. And within the and within it, the Vajrayoginī practice is considered as supreme because it has all the entire essence or or or gist of the Chakrasamvara Tantra and included and and the teaching of the generation stage and the complete without with very little elaboration. So, and it is also considered to be a very supreme practice because it is that practice that the teaching set forth in the practices can can also be performed by the person of the ordinary person or person of the first stage. And and it has two divisions, which are the generation and completion stage.
And the generation stage is the practice to attain the outer. So so it has been said for that to practice generation stage to mainly attain the outer or the Dakini land. So which means one focus is more about the attainment of the outer or inner Dakini land. And and completion practice of completion stages included within it. And and if one tries to attain the inner, mainly inner land, then one they they were trained in the practice of generation and completion stage.
And within it, the the generation stages are included as well. So now the completion stage, yeah, has the fifth Dalai Lama has set forth the three divisions for completion stage, which are the basis path and the results. So the first, the basis, basis will come afterwards. In the first year, the second division which is the path, meditation on the path has been set for before it. And to to So for the the path of meditation on a path, has been two divisions set forth, directly teaching the suchness or intrinsic nature and indirectly showing the intrinsic nature of the phenomena.
So normally, the the word Tibetan has been the synonym of a word a synonym. As said for translate mainly into emptiness. But here, the is not a it’s not an emptiness. It’s not it’s not talking about ultimate final mode of existence of the phenomena. Here is here is it’s called the intrinsic nature intrinsic nature of the phenomena, not the emptiness.
So and they are about the direct the showing the intrinsic nature of phenomena directly and indirectly has been set forth along with the demonstration of examples. And examples should be taken for the Tibetan people, not the Australian. Because in Australia, it’s about the beach. In Australia, the people can go straight away. It’s very close to the beach, so you can see a beach at any time.
So here, like, say, a person in Tibet who mean, Tibet is very far from the sea coast or from the beach. So a person wanted to see a beach, and then a person who had seen the beach have described about the beach saying, you know, it’s an ocean and then has, I mean, sand or bank and talks about the waves and storms and so forth. But telling him then the person can have some sort of idea that, All right, the beach has this and this if you go there. So he actually didn’t realize the beach directly, but he has some sort of like generic image of the beach. So he he has attained a generic image of the beach, but not completely under realized.
And the second example is instead of showing him, describing him the what? That’s the ocean or So instead of describing the how or how the ocean or the sea looks like, look like, the person’s instead of telling that give him directions, take this route and then turn left and so forth, and finally, you’ll reach the ocean. So by having the directory, and then the person travels and he’ll reach the ocean, and that person being reached the ocean, he can completely understand or realize what, I mean, how does or what does the ocean look like. So the first one is the the showing has been set forth like showing indirectly showing the ocean. And next example is oh, no.
First one is directly showing the the ocean, and next one is indirectly showing the the ocean. So and for the person, it is it was more profound to have or more beneficial to have the indirect showing the ocean indirectly rather than just listening to its the qualities or what does the ocean look like. So and so the examples apply for the ocean is the state of Buddhahood or the state is the state with the seven features embracing each other in union, and there are seven features. And so it is like the first example, directly showing the ocean, which is describing it has waves, storm, so forth. It’s like just telling the ultimate state of Buddhahood is like this and this.
And the second, indirectly showing the state with the certain feature is even more profound or beneficial than the showing, describing the qualities of each state. Is because just by telling the qualities of the state, the person will not reach to the state. If by showing the path or directions of how to reach the state, like, first you should train in the common path and then train generation in stage and completion stage. And by practicing, he’ll eventually reach the final stage where the one has perfected both purposes of self and others. So it was during the winter the monks inter debate, which happens every winter.
And during that time, there was a monk from a Kham region, and he was very talkative. And he always said, like, the talking is like a bubble of the water, and the practice is like a drop of the like a gold drop. So what it means is just by talking, it doesn’t mean I mean, it’s not effective. It’s just there are plenty. So like a bubble of the water.
So you should do a practice. If you do a practice, then you will have a drop of the gold. So means the single drop of the gold is even much better than the numbers of bubbles of the water. So in the earlier time during the Milarepa’s time, the great meditator called Gampopa, was a great meditator and he has a very deep or perform meditative meditative stabilization. And if he stays in a meditative stabilization, even one pricks his ear, he he I mean, they can I mean, he can’t be disturbed or awaken from his meditation stabilization?
So he said this to Milarepa. Milarepa and Milarepa said, no, this is nothing. It’s not that important. So you should I mean, you should bet it it is better to meditate for my tummo practice than you’re meditating on your meditative stabilization. So so these are the the showing the greatness of great showing that showing intrinsic indirectly showing the instant intrinsic nature of phenomena is performed or better greater than the showing directly.
So to do the practice, first one has to do try to one should be skillful in their practice. It is because if one is not skilled in practicing, then no matter how much practice one performs, one will not attain the wisdom of great bliss. If one is very skilled and knows the importance of the practice and the critical yeah. The important part of the practice, then one can achieve the wisdom of great bliss within a short term. So to a scholar in the practice, here are set for the three examples analogies, and they are all the same, which is implied for the same meaning that like the like a like a wood woodcutter or woodchopper, woodcutter.
And the the and the and the butcher and the the woodcutter butcher and the magician. So the woodcutter is very skilled or really trained in the wood that he can chop or cut the trees. I mean, yeah, he knows the secret important parts or places of the tree and he can chop, cut it very easily. Also for the butcher is skilled in killing. He knows where the important parts of the body locate so that he can kill animals without taking a long time to die.
Like magicians who are skilled in field of illusions, causing illusions. So example of giving giving the example of the butcher is that because he is skilled in killing animals. So likewise, if one is if one is not really a trained or not really a butcher, then one one tried to kill the animal but started chopping the limbs of the body like hands, leg, and so forth. By this, it will it takes so long that animal to to die. Some people try to kill the the ox or a cow by hitting a hammer on their forehead.
So that will not kill them very fast, quickly.
