Copyright, Permissions and Takedown Requests

AskBuddhism makes audio recordings, transcripts and related materials available for preservation, study and non-commercial educational access.

The archive includes teachings and related materials recorded at, hosted by, or connected with AskBuddhism and its activities. We make reasonable efforts to identify teachers, speakers, translators, source organisations and rights holders where known.

If you believe that material on this website has been included incorrectly, infringes your rights, should not be publicly available, or requires correction, please contact us using the form below. We will review the matter promptly and in good faith.

What to include in your request

To help us assess the matter, please include:

  • Your name and contact details
  • The specific material involved (page URL, title, teacher name, recording name, transcript name, or any other identifying details)
  • Your connection to the material (for example: teacher, translator, author, estate representative, publisher, copyright owner, or authorised representative)
  • The nature of your concern (for example: copyright ownership, missing or incorrect attribution, permission was not granted, restricted or private teaching material, inaccurate teacher or source information, or a request for removal from public access)
  • The outcome you are requesting (for example: correction of attribution, removal of a transcript, removal of an audio file, restricted access rather than public access, replacement with corrected information, or further discussion)

How we handle requests

When we receive a request, we will:

  • acknowledge receipt where contact details are provided;
  • review the material and the concern raised;
  • temporarily restrict access if the issue appears significant or urgent;
  • consult relevant records, committee members, teachers, volunteers or source organisations where appropriate;
  • decide whether to retain, amend, restrict or remove the material;
  • notify the requester of the outcome where appropriate.

Possible outcomes

Depending on the circumstances, AskBuddhism may:

  • correct teacher, title, date, source or attribution information;
  • add further acknowledgement or rights information;
  • replace a transcript or audio file with a corrected version;
  • move material behind restricted access;
  • remove material from public access;
  • retain the material where we consider there is a proper basis to do so.

Good-faith preservation approach

The purpose of this archive is preservation, study and non-commercial educational access. The inclusion of material on this website is not intended to override the rights or wishes of teachers, speakers, translators, publishers, estates or other rights holders.

Where a genuine concern is raised, AskBuddhism will deal with it respectfully and practically.
