About this talk. In this 16-minute closing session of the 1999 Four Noble Truths Retreat, Khensur Rinpoche leads not a doctrinal lecture but an extended dedication and aspiration practice. He praises participants for retreating over the Easter holiday, framing their attendance as karmic ripening rather than coincidence. He reflects on the Four Noble Truths as the shared foundation across all Buddhist philosophical schools and the first teaching of Śākyamūni Buddha, then turns to a striking aspiration: dedicating the group’s accumulated merit toward being reborn when the future Buddha Maitreya gives his first teaching on the same four truths, at which many will attain enlightenment. The session closes with prayers for world peace amid an ongoing war, for all beings’ liberation, and for the long life of root teachers.

And the and then the and then the mind only school, the Cittamātra, they have their own critique and they have their own view of establishing the the selflessness of phenomena. And they’re saying that That the they said that the the form or the form and the wisdom which apprehend the form are the empty of these are the empty of I mean, oh, It’s okay. I mean, maybe I I don’t think I can say it correctly, sir. And I’ll let you know. Okay.
Okay. I’m sorry for that. I’m not sure about this. So, and I consider you people are a very good practitioner because it is actually a holiday time. It’s a vacation that Easter and but and instead of spending during the holiday, you have done the retreat which means that you are very good practitioner where you came to practice and I really admire your efforts in doing retreat in such time.
So and both both of us had used this used this time very meaningfully that have taught you the teachings and you have listened to teaching and teaching here is the four noble teaching taught by Buddha Śākyamūni. Buddha Śākyamūni has cultivated numbers of merits in numbers of eons. Finally, he attains his goal. And then he so after after after his long effort, and then he he taught the first teaching of Four Noble Truth and which is the basis, which is the foundation of the Buddhist teaching. And and we got we have spent used this time to to for myself to teach teach and you to listen to the teaching is is very fortunate time.
So we we have a very fortunate time to use this time many meaningfully. So so this is the teaching which agreed in all the Buddhist schools of tenets. And and we got we are very fortunate to have this time to study on this on particular teaching and had lived on life very meaningful. And also by studying that we have attained or cultivate great store of merit as well as we have implanted good imprints on our mind stream as well. So like Buddha Śākyamūni, in future Buddha, Buddha Maitreya will do the same as Buddha Śākyamūni and he will teach a teaching of four noble truths in the same place in India.
And so if we dedicate and make prayers to take a birth in such a time in that place when Buddha teaches the four noble truth. If you make this this kind of prayers or dedication, I’m pretty sure we’ll take birth there. So it is it is been said or stated that at the first time Maitreya will teach when when when when Buddha, the Maitreya will teach us for I mean during his first teaching in this world in future. And at that time, it was being stated that there will be numbers of disciples or or audience. And and on the particular teaching, the many will become enlightened during this first teaching.
So so we should make prayers to be take a birth or to be born in such during such at such time. So during that time, we would I mean, like here today, we will we will all work together at that time as well. I’m very, very happy. So now we just come to the end of the ritual teaching and it is a time to make dedications or do the prayers of dedication and about the dedication here now. But and so I myself have I myself have cultivate the great merit by teaching the teaching, by giving teachings and I’m and which I’m very pleased to do this.
And as from your part, you have cultivated the great merit by the listening and receiving the teaching. So now here here today both myself and your merit have cultivated, we will dedicate those merit to end to to to to all the beings in this world and presently there is a huge there is a war happening in the world and we’ll make this prayer dedicate to end up to end that war and then dedicate for the beings to get attained liberation as soon as possible and as well as dedicate to have better human rebirth for oneself and always and meet with the teachings forever. So we’ll do we’ll make dedication on this make dedication here. So I was actually expecting more people for this retreat and but but but but we don’t have much here at this time. But but it doesn’t matter because the person who who who have attained this has a karmic connection, has cultivated a cause or karma in the previous or in the past and due to that one get such opportunity or get leisure time to do the retreat and who does not the person who missed or doesn’t able to come to the retreat has no karmic connection or hasn’t got karma to to do this such to such retreat.
So you you should feel very fortunate to have such a karma to get attain enlightenment retreat. And then also make the dedication in prayers that all our good gurus including His Holiness and so forth to have to turn to stay long in to stay long and then give patience and also make make sure that any kind of religions which which brings have which brings to make prayers to live long for any kind of those any kind of religion which brings happiness and peace to the beings in this world. So so such so so we we should make dedication to make such this dedication here.
