About this talk. In this session, Ven Sanghy Khandro works through the second part of the nine-point Meditation on Death, focusing on one of the three main points. She then addresses a central challenge for practitioners: the overwhelming emotions that can arise when contemplating death—whether one’s own mortality or the death of others. Rather than avoiding these feelings, she offers concrete methods for working skillfully with the mind, showing how to prevent emotional overwhelm and cultivate instead a state of evenness, calm, and balance. The teaching demonstrates that with the right approach, even when facing loss or existential questions, the mind can remain stable and even positive.

So, in this session, the second session, we are going to first of all do the second part of the nine point Meditation on Death, meditating on the second of the three main points. And then I’ll go on to talk about emotions that can arise in our mind and disturb our mind whether it’s in regard to our own death or the death of someone else. And we’ll look at some ways in which we can work on our mind, work on these emotions. So that our mind is less likely to be overwhelmed by and carried away by and heavily disturbed by these emotions. And instead we can keep our mind more even and balanced and calm and even positive in these situations.
