About this talk. In this 40-minute session, Ven Jampa Gendun leads a guided Chenrezig sadhana from start to finish, giving spoken instruction at each stage so practitioners can follow in real time. He builds the visualization step by step — Chenrezig’s white four-armed form, the wish-fulfilling jewel held at the heart, five-colored light radiating outward — then guides participants through the seven-branch prayer, mandala offering, praise verses, and five requests. During mantra recitation, he asks everyone to bring to mind someone currently suffering and direct compassion toward them. The session closes with the dissolution of Chenrezig into body, speech, and mind, followed by post-meditation guidance to sustain three attitudes: recognizing the body as Chenrezig, all sounds as the six-syllable mantra, and the mind as inseparable from voidness — compared to water dissolving into water. For practitioners who have received Chenrezig initiation.

How wonderful it would be if all sentient beings were not separated from the uncontaminated bliss of liberation. May they be not separated from this. I myself will make them to be not separated from this. Please, Guru Buddha, bless me to be able to do this. And now we’ll build up the visualization.
I’m surrounded by all sentient beings in infinite space. They are all in human form. On the crown of my head and of all sentient beings is a white lotus, upon which is a moon disc, and in its centre, a white letter HRIH. This letter symbolises the mind of Ārya Chenrezig and transforms into the actual form of Chenrezig. Chenrezig is pure in color and the nature of light, radiating with the five colors, white, red, blue, green, and yellow.
His face has a smiling expression, and he looks upon me and all sentient beings with eyes of great compassion. He has one face and four arms. The first two hands are joined together at the heart, holding a precious jewel which fulfills the wishes of all sentient beings. In his second left hand, he holds a white lotus. And in the second right hand, he holds a clear crystal rosary.
He’s seated in the full lotus position, wearing fine silk garments and precious jewels and ornaments. An antelope skin covers his left shoulder and breast. Seated on the crown of his head is the Buddha Amitābha, and a stainless moon behind Ārya Chenrezig provides support. He is the essence of all lamas, yidams, buddhas, bodhisattvas, dakas, dakinis, and Dharma protectors. And now trying to keep the visualization, we’ll say the prayer of the seven branches.
I prostrate respectfully with body, speech, mind. All material offerings I make as well as those mentally transformed. I declare all non virtuous actions accumulated from time without beginning and rejoice in the virtues of ordinary and noble beings. I request you, oh, Buddhas, to turn the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of all sentient beings. I beseech you to remain in this world and not pass into parinirvana.
All virtues, my own, and those of others, I dedicate for the attainment of the great enlightenment. And the Mandala offering. To you, Ārya Chenrezig, I offer this mandala visualized before me, built on a base resplendent with flowers saffron water and incense, adorned with Mount Meru, the four continents, the sun, and the moon. May all sentient beings share in the benefits of this offering. These helpless, pitiful sentient beings are all my mothers.
I contemplate again and again how they have cherished me with kindness. I request you to bestow upon me your blessings so that I may soon give birth to the spontaneous great compassion like a mother’s compassion for her dearest child. I send forth this jeweled mandala to you, Ārya Chenrezig. And the praise to Ārya Chenrezig, To the one whose body is pure and white, unstained by defilements, whose head is crowned by the fully enlightened Buddha, Amitābha. To you, Ārya Chenrezig, who gaze upon all sentient beings with eyes of boundless compassion, I prostrate. And the five requests.
To you, Ārya Chenrezig, possessor of boundless compassion, and to your retinue, I cry out and beseech you to listen to me. I pray that you will quickly rescue me and all my fathers and mothers who are drowning in the six realms, the ocean of samsaric suffering. I request you to bestow blessings upon us that we may quickly realize the profound and vast aspects of the dharma and especially the unsurpassable precious mind of bodhicitta. I pray that by the pure nectar of your great compassion, all our delusions and non virtues accumulated since time without beginning shall be purified. By your compassionate hands, I beseech you.
Lead me and all sentient beings to Dewachen, the pure land of Amitābha Buddha. I request you, Buddha of immeasurable light, and you, Ārya Chenrezig, to please become in all our lifetimes the spiritual teachers who guide us along the noble path which is without fault. From doing so, lead us to the state of Buddhahood. So returning to the visualization, having made such requests single pointedly, infinite rays of light radiate from Ārya Chenrezig’s body. As the rays descend, they encompass the six realms and all sentient beings.
All impure karma from illusory vision is purified. Externally, all six realms are transformed into Dewachen, and internally, the body, speech, and mind of myself and all sentient beings becomes the body, speech, and mind of Ārya Chenrezig. All visual appearances, audible sounds, and mental perceptions become inseparable from voidness. Contemplating in this way, visualizing that all sentient beings are chanting with us, we’ll recite the mantra, So bringing the attention back to the visualization. We’ll say the mantra twenty one times together, again to finish.
And this time, thinking of anybody we know who is undergoing suffering at the moment, keeping them in our thoughts and sending our love and compassion to them. I now visualize Ārya Chenrezig dissolving into myself and all sentient beings, My own body, speech, and mind, and that of all others, becomes inseparable from the body, speech, and mind of Ārya Chenrezig. Engaged in any activity, be it going, staying, sleeping, or working, never be separated from these three attitudes. Recognize my own body and the bodies of others are the actual body of Ārya Chenrezig. Contemplate all sounds are the sound of the six lettered mantra, Om mani padme hum.
And further, contemplate all recollections and perceptions are the manifestation of the dharmakaya, that is, that my mind is inseparably one with voidness, like water poured into water. I must say the dedication. By the accumulation of these virtues, may I quickly attain the state of ārya Chenrezig. Thus, I will be able to lead all sentient beings without exception to the supreme and unsurpassable state. May the supreme and precious mind of bodhicitta be born where it has not been born.
Where it has been born, may it not decrease. And where it has not decreased may it abundantly increase.
