About this talk. In this 87-minute Tibetan New Year puja conducted in 2013, a lama leads an abbreviated collective ceremonial practice focused on dedication and blessing. The session moves through structured liturgical verses in a selective sequence, emphasizing dedication of merit for the long life of spiritual teachers, the well-being of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and the Tibetan people who have sacrificed for their cause. The core of the puja recites the stages of the path commentary in verse, covering refuge, the preciousness of human birth, renunciation of saṃsāra, loving-kindness and compassion toward all beings, the six perfections, and tantric practice culminating in guru yoga and the five forces. Interspersed are tea offerings, torma offerings, and personal dedications for deceased students. The liturgy follows a cumulative Lamrim framework and concludes with requests for blessing and protection from the guru, pitched at an established sangha community engaged in structured practice.

So we did the this morning for the Tibetan New Year. We’re going to dedicate for the long life of all the teachers and the spiritual masters in our tradition and others and for all the wishes of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama of Tibet, to be fulfilled and especially for the well-being of the many people now who have sacrificed their life for the Tibetan cause that or that their sacrifices not be in vain and that there’ll be peace and happiness in the land of snows in this year and the years to come. So this morning’s Puja will be slightly abbreviated, so try and just keep up if you can. Okay? And there is another dedication that during the tea time, we can dedicate.
Right. Oh, sorry. We’re at this for verse nine. 15. We just do the first prostration first, Verse 18, then we’ll skip to 20 Page three.
So the long mandala, short mandala, the short mandala, Page nine, Versus 8B. And then it goes back to verse number after that. Let me go back to 32.
So verse 55. From this one, skip to the just straight into this one. Sure. We don’t need to do that. Yeah.
So from this 55, we’ll go straight to verse 63. It’s verse 68. So we’ll recite the reviewing the stage of the path, in English, now in verse 84. Through the power of having made offerings and respectful requests to your holy and venerable guru supreme field of merit, we seek our blessings of protectors and root world being in place that may come under your joyful care. Realizing how this body of liberties and endowments is found but once,
To obtain is easily lost. We seek our blessing to partake of its essence to make it worthwhile and not be distracted by the meaningless affairs of this life. Aghast at the searing blaze of suffering in the lower realms who take heartfelt refuge in the three precious gems and seek your blessings that may eagerly endeavor to practice the various means for abandoning what is bound to misfortune accumulating virtuous deeds. Fettered and tossed in waves of delusions and karma, plagued by hordes of mighty sufferings of three kinds. We seek your blessing to develop an intense longing to be free from this monstrous ocean of boundless and vicious existence.
Having abandoned the mind that views the unbearable prison of a cycle of existence as a pleasure grove, we seek your blessings to partake of the treasury of Aryas’ jewels and the three higher trainings and thereby uphold liberation’s banner. Having considered how all these boundless beings have been our mothers, have raised us in kindness again and again, we seek our blessing to develop unperfected compassion like that of a loving mother for a precious child. There is no difference between ourselves and others. None of us wishes even the slightest of sufferings nor is ever content with the happiness we have. Realizing these to seek your blessings may enhance the bliss and joy of others.
This chronic disease is cherishing ourselves as a cause giving rise to our unsought suffering, We seek your blessings to blame, begrudge, and destroy the monstrous demon as selfishness. The mind that cherishes all mother beings and and secures them in bliss is a gateway leading to infinite virtue. We seek your blessings to cherish these beings more than our lives, even should they rise up as their enemies. In brief, infantile beings labor only for their own end, while Buddhists work solely for the welfare of others, with a mind understanding the distinctions between the failings of one and the advantages of the other. Seek your blessings to enable us to equalize and exchange ourselves for others, to cherishing ourselves is the way to all torment, while cherishing of others is the foundation of all that is good, we seek our blessings to make our core practice the yoga of exchanging self for others.
And thus our venerable compassionate gurus, we seek your blessings that all the obstacles and sufferings, and sufferings of other beings may without exception ripen upon us right now. May we give our happiness and virtue to others and thereby invest all beings with bliss. Should even the environment and the beings therein be filled with the fruits of their karmic debts and unwished-for sufferings pour down like rain,
We seek our blessings to take these miserable conditions as a path, using them as causes to exhaust the results of our negative karma. In short, however appearances arise, be they good or bad, We seek a blessing to transform into the heart of hearts, and into bodhicitta through the practice of the five forces, to make the entire Dharma into a path and thus to attune ourselves solely to the bliss of the mind. Whatever we occasion to meet, we seek a blessing to adapt it to our meditation by the skillful means of the four acts of use. May we render this life of liberties and endowments infinitely meaningful by putting into practice the advice and commitments of the training of the mind.
In order to rescue all beings from the vast oceans of existence, we seek our blessings and become adept in bodhicitta through pure selfless wish and by love and compassion. We employ the special technique of giving and taking upon the breath. Seek your blessings and may we eagerly endeavor to put into practice the three Mahāyāna moral codes. Constraining the mind by taking the pure bodhisattva vows, thus paving a path to embody the victorious splendor of the three times.
We seek our blessings to complete the perfection of generosity through the giving of the body and enjoyments and all the collection of virtues, namely transforming our bodies as well as the collection of virtues and objects desired by each and every sentient being. We seek our blessings to complete the perfection of moral discipline of working for the sake of sentient beings, enacting virtuous deeds and not transgressing the bounds of the Prātimokṣa, Bodhisattva, and tantric vows, even at the cost of our lives, to relieve the many beings of the three realms without exception, who become angry and scold us, criticize, threaten and kill us. We seek blessings to cultivate the perfection of patience, not to be distraught, but to work for their benefit in response to their harm, even were we to remain in an ocean of eons and fiery hills of iron for the sake of one sentient being alone. We seek blessings to cultivate the perfection of joyous effort to strive the compassion for supreme enlightenment and not to be discouraged. Having abandoned the faults of dullness, agitation and mental wandering.
We seek your blessings to complete the perfection of meditative concentration. For this samadhi of single-pointed placement upon the nature of reality, which is all things devoid of true existence. Seek blessings to complete the perfection of wisdom. This space-like yoga of single-pointed placement upon ultimate truth, conjoined with ecstasy and great bliss induced by discriminating wisdom and analyzing suchness. Seek blessings to perfect the Samādhi of illusion, understanding that all external phenomena lack true existence yet still appear, like a mirage, a dream, or the image of the moon on a still lake.
Samsāra and Nirvāṇa lack even the atom of true existence yet cause and effect, dependent arising, is unfailing. We seek your blessing to discern the import of Nāgārjuna’s thought, which is the view of dependent arising, as complementary and not contradictory. And thereupon, we seek our blessings that may cross the labyrinth ocean of Tantra through the kindness of our navigator, Vajradhāra, and to hold dearer to us than our lives our vows and words of honor, which are the roots of powerful attainments. We seek our blessings to cleanse all stains of ordinary appearance and grasping through through the first stage yoga, transforming birth, death, and bardo into the three bodies of Buddha, so that whatever may appear arises as the body of the Yidam. Seek blessings to actualize in this life the path of unity, the clear light and illusory body, which arises by placing the winds at the very center of the central channel, the eight-petaled lotus of our hearts.
Should we not have completed the points of the path at the time of death. We seek blessings to be led to a pure land through the power of the instructions of applying the five forces or by the forceful means of the guru’s transference of mind. In short, we seek your blessings to be protected and be cared for by you, taking birth willingly in all our lives and thus to become your chief disciples holding every secret of your body, speech, mind. O protector, please grant that all that is auspicious for us, being amongst your very first circle of disciples,, wherever you manifest, that both our temporal and ultimate wishes without exception, effortlessly and spontaneously be fulfilled. Have you been thus entreated as supreme gurus?
Grant this request so that you might bless us, happily alighting on the crown of our heads, and once again, seat yourself radiantly and firmly at the core of our lotus hearts. Tea offering? Yeah. Tea offering is verse 13. We make tea offering first.
