About this talk. In this 16-minute session following a Medicine Buddha empowerment, Kyabje Rinpoche teaches students how to begin practicing with the mantra they have just received. Two mantra versions are available: a longer form and a shorter condensed version for when time is limited, both bringing blessings of the Buddha. For self-healing, he instructs visualization of the Buddha at the crown of the head, drawing down rainbow light to purify negativities and fill the body with healing nectar. When giving medicine to others, recite the mantra while visualizing and blowing on the medicine to enhance its potency. He guides students through the three-fold commitment and ritual completion.

Use to commit ourselves to making, to rely upon them, to engage in the practice as best we can and as often as we can. That in order to recite the mantra that we have received without reciting the mantra then we cannot receive the blessings of the Buddhas of healing. So in order to remove the circumstances for sickness, in order to develop the potential for medicine to cure us, then we’re going to rely on the mantra. We’re going to commit ourselves to recitation of the mantra, you know, as many times as you can. It’s simply a matter of profit to oneself.
There’s no particular commitment to the number of times you must say them the mantra. But if you could, you know, once or twice, seven times, 21 times, one rosary, as many times as you do, it is that much more profit in developing the power of the mantra and its blessing. So the So there as you notice, there are two mantras. The If we can, we can recite the longer mantra. If we don’t have time, all the meaning, all the power is condensed into the shorter mantra so you can simply say the shorter mantra when it’s necessary.
So we can make use of this mantra by at the times when we ourselves are sick that imagining the visualizing the Buddha of healing at the crown of our head as we have done. And while reciting the mantra imagining that the blessings in the form of rainbow colored lights entering through the crown of our head, purifying all the negativities, the impurities, all the faults of our body followed by a rain of rainbow colored nectar completely filling our body, eliminating without the least bit of trace of illness, of any fault, defects and all our sickness is completely gone. In the case of when we’re not sick but in the case of giving medicine we can simply do the visualization again and reciting the mantra and through the strength of the mantra blowing on the medicine in order to give it a increase its potential its potency. So then the transmission of the blessing is that now we should think that we have actually received the complete permission and blessing of the Buddhas of Healing along with the ability to make use of the mantra that there’s no fault, there’s nothing held back, that we’ve received it in a correct and proper form completely, and that we have completely received the blessing.
Then we in completing the transmission we request we call our attention to ourselves. Call the presiding master’s attention to us and then we’re going to as we did before when we say Da Ming that’s my name, I give you a name and that until I achieve enlightenment that I am going to make use of the meditational deity of the Buddha of healing and that I’m going to recite the mantra as much as I am able to rely on its power. So placing the palms of our hands together. So we’re going to say it three times. So we finished it once and now we’re going to recite it.
This is the commitment to make use of the meditational deity of the Buddha of healing and to say the mantra. Then your name? So that’s the second repetition. We’ll repeat it one more time. Then your name?
So we’ve completed the the transmission of the commitment of the transmission. So this all of you have received some rice and now we’re going to make use of it. When I say go. Throw it. We’re going to throw this rice three times.
And you throw it three times. Okay. So out of appreciation for the kindness of the master, we’re going to offer a flower. And in return for having offered the flower, the presiding master is going to give the flower back to us. Through the power of having received this flower back to us, we’re going to receive all the excellent qualities of compassion and love and a kind heart.
So having this rice was representative of offering flowers of the kindness to the presiding master and now he’s going to offer the flowers back. So you should imagine that he’s throwing flowers at us and that they drift down and touch our head and we receive all these bliss and nectars and blessings within ourselves. So, you know, you’ve gone through you’ve worked hard, tired, and now you’re going to be completely refreshed having this when these flowers touch you. So we’ve been at the transmission. The permission has been very successful.
Everything went well. And we’ll take a ten minute break and then we’re going to do an offering to the spiritual master ceremony. You’re all very welcome to attend. And that’s all.
