About this talk. In this 25-minute farewell talk from 1987, Lama Lhundup offers direct guidance on cultivating inner peace through compassion and mindful attention. He begins by reflecting on the dinner gathering and the importance of genuine communication, respect, and love in human relationships as the essence of Buddhist practice. He then pivots to the core teaching: peace cannot be purchased or obtained from external sources but must be discovered within by examining your own heart and developing loving-kindness toward all beings. Lama provides practical daily instruction on clearing delusions and negative states through wisdom and concentration, followed by a guided visualization of Buddha and receiving blessings to purify negativity. The talk concludes with a merit dedication for wisdom, renunciation, and the realization of emptiness, and world peace. The second half captures informal remarks from centre members acknowledging Lama Lhundup as the first resident teacher at Buddha House, their gratitude for his presence, and a fundraising appeal for his monastery.

You have strongly show, show respecting others, share love others, share your knowledge others, this essence Buddhist teaching, you know, you you are you are you are showing respecting other and taking care others. This Buddha’s teachings essence. Also that by this showing respecting other sharing love other taking care other this by this action you bring inner peace Without this method, you cannot get peace.
You know? So how we get inner peace? By true love, others. Only that’s why. You miss one person, love, true love, pure love, then you love you miss your own peace.
That’s all. So so we have true love inside. So how why not come out? We sometime, we miss our our our plan plan plan. Sometime, you know, so sometime we miss respecting our parents parent.
And, you know, so then just showing your showing pride we respecting our selfish, we respecting taking care our selfish mind, self-cherishing mind, ego. So then you miss your understanding your own peace. So this how we inner peace, how we just so man, you always be united, connect family, friends, friend, our unit, human society, everyone you like your your son. It’s completely love and respecting. So you look your inner heart.
You have pure love, pure nature. Just you can look it. Relax. You know, I just close. Look in your in heart.
You just there. Peace is there. Just look. Concentrate your inner peace. That’s all.
Don’t rush everywhere. Don’t need run. Look at everywhere. You know, I I want love. I want peace.
No one give to you. You have. Just you look at. You get practice develop. That’s all.
You know? So many people misunderstanding, looking out. Peace. Love to me. Love to me.
So then he upset. You know? So we don’t need to buy one rupee one dollar. You can sell me peace. You cannot buy.
You know? Today, I went to shop a lot. People cannot, you know, you know, but I can pay million dollar. Please you sell me piece. They cannot they they cannot sell.
You know? So we have here, you know, just look at. Just look at. Concentrate. That’s all.
So this every just everyday practice. Develop. Build up. Build up. More.
More. More. You know? Just make clean. Clean.
Clean. Clean. Clean. You know? Don’t let delusion come out.
Desire, anger, pride come out. Just you can make clean. Use your wisdom, knowledge. This is a dirty mind, garbage mind. Go away.
Just relax. Don’t need upset. Just look at in your heart. Alright? That’s my pleasure.
Okay So now just we can together kindness really, really, really in this world kindness, really pure advice that comes from Buddha Buddhahood. Buddha said, never harm any beings. You any one person being, you not harm other being. You get harm. You get results for your suffer problems.
So that is very, very, very rare advice. So we can keep that advice. That can we can keep that message. So now anyway just you know better than me you know you’re doing practicing you’re really taking care other people That’s very very nice. Thank you very thank you very very much, you know So now we can just remember Buddha’s kindness Remember kindness are the sentient beings for us two things Buddha’s kindness we open mind kindness other beings because they all the time serve it love to you Make peace, make make love to you.
They give to you. Whatever you want, they come from others. So so kindness. Remember other beings kindness. So you have to you to be compassion other beings.
You to be love other beings that’s all so now we can just if you if you can if if you know just we can visualize Buddha. If you doesn’t know how to visualize, doesn’t matter. You look at your heart. Peace. Visualize.
Inner peace. Best. If you know Buddha, how to visualize, you visualize in the space. Pure lotus and moon seat on, you know, Buddha’s Buddha’s shape, like rainbow, Completely. Just man’s shape, but light rainbow completely.
But they all you can try. His face beautiful face and whole hands, everything. Hands meditation, hands. Then looking to you, you know, be smiling, completely peace. Oh, so then you can take blessing from to from from Buddha.
Light, radiant light from Buddha heart. Come to light to you. In in in in in in in in the heart, you receive in heart. Go inside, your negativities, deluded mind, you know, confused mind, poverty mind, negative, go washed, go all black, go under out, under out, go under the ground. So inside complete light, radiant light.
Oh, completely fully bless me. You you think, I received full blessing. Complete in inside light, radiant light. By Buddha’s blessing. Okay.
So you can slowly think this. Then you get you when you see in inner light by from Buddha’s light so you concentrate with this then you can think completely I purified negative but it’s gone empty with the light Meditate. Just short time, please. So now we just what how how we met how much you made merit. We can dedicate by our this merit.
We quickly achieve completely, fully knowledge. Quickly achieve fully wisdom. We quickly realize three principal paths: renunciation, bodhicitta, and the wisdom knowing true emptiness. Also, dedicate our deeds by our merit. By this merit, we dedicate world complete peace, normal world, no illness.
So we can dedicate very beneficial. Okay. We do group here. Thank you very thank you very, very much. Okay.
See you again. I come back, and we can see you. Alright. So maybe how how we group picture? Maybe people can sit here.
Then look at it, then you can Before before we move Alright. Okay. I know that everybody came here not to say goodbye to Lama, but to see who won the lottery. Now this is the lottery for the the hardcover book of Lama Yeshe’s introduction to Tantra. The proceeds from that book, and there’s still some very few copies available, go towards sponsoring the worldwide distribution of the soft cover book.
And I’m now going to ask Lama. I know many people had to really dig very hard into their pocket to buy the two dollar tickets. They weren’t cheap, I know. But it’s, I bought some too. Okay.
We all agree if they’re not they’ve all got dots on them. Lama, you’re not allowed to pick out your favorites. Alright. Okay. Okay.
Alright. Dot. Well, it it is somebody that is care of me. It’s George Poplar at the Art School. So he’s won the book.
To everybody else, there’s one person in particular who missed out. I’m very sorry. I can’t see him right now. Anyway, George Poplar’s won the book. Thank you.
Okay. Just before we have the group photograph, I would like to just say a couple of words, please. Mhmm. Yes. Really, so it’s fantastic that you all came tonight to to say goodbye to Lama.
And we actually, Buddha House is when I think of the group, I never think of so many people, and we this is the first lama that we’ve ever been able to call our own. Before, when the lama came, they came for two weeks on loan from Tārā Institute or somebody came on a world tour. But Lama Lhundup is the first Lama that we’ve ever been able to call our own. He came at a time when his own monastery was having troubles with a desperate need to rebuild, and he came here at a time when Buddha House had never had its own teacher and sister Cathy had already been gone and there was no sign of Jampa. And things were really quite grim, and it was reflected in our bank balance, and it was reflected it was reflected in lots of ways.
But but the fastest growing Tibetan Buddhist Centre in South Australia didn’t seem to be going so quick. And then Lama came and quite for the first time, we’ve had our own teachings, our own teacher here, and we were able to kind of see what a Lama’s like. You know, in a sense, you know, see how they live, experience the joys of meeting somebody who’s a little bit further down the path, a living example. And, from my experience, Lama has really shown us a lot of things that we can do to look at our mind to see to see actually that when there’s trouble arising, we don’t actually have to all collapse on the floor just because there’s a problem. In fact, we can keep having a calm mind and see that the problems are outside and they are not actually us.
I haven’t practiced this as well as it sounds, but I’ve I’ve seen that while Lama’s been here being this terrific guide and showing how to have a calm mind, he’s actually had his own problems in that at Kopan trying to raise the funds for the for his center, which for him is just like Buddha House is to us. So there is a bowl out there and I think most of you know we’re actually tonight was apart from saying goodbye, we’re trying to raise some money. So after that beautiful talk, I hope that you’ll be able to dig as deeply into your pockets as you can into your mind and help him and all the boys and the girls, the nuns and the monks under his care. And, Lama, really, thank you so much for coming to our center. Okay.
Thank you. I’d like just to say one other thing because, yeah, it’s not like we have a captive audience. The Buddha House the Buddha House annual meeting is on the twenty ninth, Sunday the twenty ninth. It’s a fortnight after the Grand Prix at eleven thirty. Whether or not you’re a member or you’re a friend or you’re interested to know really what kind of direction Buddha House is taking, please come on on that Sunday and help us plan for our future.
It’s very important, you know, that oh, It’s it it looks the building is kind of more impressive than the group in a sense, and we we really need your input to help us, grow and find a way to to in which way to go. So that meeting is in a fortnight. I would also like to thank, in front of you all and, Judy for guiding the education committee that’s put on Lama’s teachings and Kimberley for putting up so much effort and care, and Ingrid especially, she’s organised all the lunches that all the food and looking after Lama. Ingrid, thank you very much, it was a big responsibility. Thank you for the opportunity.
So thank you so much for coming tonight too, and now let’s have a nice photograph, everyone has to smile, including Claire, and then we’ll have a cup of tea and cakes. Thank you once again. Yeah. So maybe everyone turn around. Turn some maybe turn Can you all just kind of turn around and come this way?
