About this talk. Using the image of a seed that must pass through stalk, green leaf, and finally full crop before it bears fruit, Khensur Rinpoche opens this 1h 33m talk by examining what activates — and what blocks — our inner spiritual lineage. He identifies two main obstacles: associating with negative companions whose attitudes gradually reshape our own thinking, and the lack of supportive conditions for practice. He then turns to the conditions we already possess — the capacity to distinguish faults from virtues, a genuine inclination toward Dharma — before arriving at the practical core: the foundational instruction not to harm others, and the sustained work of identifying and eliminating the mental causes of suffering.

Before a sprout, for the stalk of the plant, for green leaves, and finally, a full crop. It has this potential and this capacity. Another obstacle to the activation of our lineage is unhealthy companions. Negative ways of thinking, negative attitudes, under the under the power of their influence, we too will become negative in our thinking and activities. We we don’t remain independent of those we associate with.

Therefore, these are these in associating with negative companions, then this association would serve as an obstacle to the activation of our lineage. Conducive conditions, supporting conditions, whose lack of complete supportive conditions would act as an obstacle to the activation of the lineage. For us, we possess all of the various conducive conditions that we can generate the wisdom, the intelligence with respect to what are faults and what are excellent qualities, that we can we have a propensity for the Dharma and we are liking with respect to the Dharma could be about this as it evolves, then I think that’s worth it. I’ve explained what our main practices should consist of. Essentially, should be not to harm others.

On top of it, it is a fault because it is that which generates suffering. And by eliminating that fault, that is destroying that fear, eliminating the causes of suffering.
