About this talk. The most vivid passage in this 92-minute session is Khensur Rinpoche’s firsthand account of the Barkhor on March 10, 1959 — Tibetan women tearing down Mao portraits, soldiers crouching behind machine guns on rooftops, loudspeakers broadcasting threats to make cabinet ministers eat their own flesh. Most of the recording covers Rinpoche’s retreat preparations: the nine preliminary practices he completed, including guru yoga, Vajrasattva purification with the hundred-syllable mantra, mandala offerings, going for refuge, and prostrations. He explains the symbolism of the cupped-hand gesture in prostration (left hand for wisdom and emptiness, right for method and bodhicitta) and describes the sixty qualities of Buddha’s speech, including the capacity to address many listeners simultaneously, each hearing the reply in their own language.

This is monday the eighteenth of september nineteen eighty nine, and I’m going down to talk with Khensur Rinpoche at Buddha House in Adelaide. He did here. This one other cave, another cave. And this one very high, normal one. Oh.
Plus, He did math. Text? Writing text there? You did it. Mhmm.
Yeah. He taught many times. From that case? Yeah. We have one valley.
Valley? Another valley. Yeah. Yeah. Yes.
There comes one river, and they have one very heart, great lama. Very true place. Yeah. He’s forgotten. Is there have you been in Dharmasala?
It’s in Dharmasala. They have one monastery, and this one belongs to this one. Oh, right. Yeah. Yeah.
I’ve heard about it. Yeah. Yeah. I haven’t seen. This mountain, they call mountain.
This one mountain. Yeah. Then But these one is Takshi. Takshi? Takshi.
Takshi. Takshi. Tibetan army. It’s good. This one isn’t got a name.
Ah. Yeah. What He’s got most names in Tibetan. This one mountain. That’s Chakpuri.
Chakpuri. Yeah. I might make a photocopy of that, and tomorrow on the photocopy, you’ll write. Some doctor they have a lot of doctor in Chakpuri. Yeah.
Yeah. He lives in Chakpuri. Yeah. Heard. Yeah.
Heard. Did Rinpoche go there at all to Chakpuri? He visited the Chakpuri and the temples. Oh. Yeah.
Did. He did? Yeah. He had to go there. He medicine.
Oh, so if you were sick? Yeah. Again, not in the way. They have the same medicine. Everywhere?
Yeah. That one finished. It’s finished now. In fifty nine, it got bombed. There’s nothing there now.
Jabari is still there. Which one? The monastery. It’s not monastery. Just one, a mountain.
The mountain’s there, but Yeah. Remember the corridor. The medical college is on the street. Have a lot of house. Not not like hospital.
We have a doctor, but we we go there and the doctor then give medicine. Pulse. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
And they come back. Yeah. Yeah. There’s on that top of that hill, there’s nothing but a great big radio aerial. But on the bottom Yeah.
There’s a little monastery Pabalalubu? Pabalalubu Land. Yeah. Yes. Pabalalubu.
Pabalalubu. Is King Songtsen Gampo’s cave? No. And I can’t remember because I’m not sure where that see, the medical is now in the center of Lhasa. Yeah, it’s center.
I think that changed there. Think it must be. And then. Oh. Alright.
Come that way. That’s really good. I’ll copy that and we’ll write on the copies. Thank you. You can ask Rinpoche if he’s got any writing, any Tibetan lists of all the books he studied.
I wouldn’t mind to get a copy. Before, we went through them with Jampa, but he has some written in Tibetan. Now that I’ve got this, Lama Chodak can just translate it for me and I can check it against the English translation to get it right. Could you ask Rinpoche if he’s still got those lists? This is the day following, and I’m going down to Buddha House again to talk with Khensur Rinpoche.
Tenzin, I was wondering if Rinpoche could talk a little bit about his three year retreat because we haven’t really talked about that. And if you could explain to him that see, this story will be Westerners will read it. They really need to understand why people do retreats as much as possible. It’s purpose realization. Realization?
Yes. Ground or path realization. It’s really hard. It’s hard. Hard to say.
I don’t know. Just just try Maybe before Rinpoche could do this retreat, he must have done many other practices. Could he describe what preparations and how? Is that all? And the.
He did some before. Nine preliminary? Yeah. Yeah. Nine preliminary?
Yeah. He did almost nine. Just seven, he did before. Yeah. They have some incense.
He did it almost entirely. Essential. Essential. Yes. Very important. Seven essential.
Yeah. He did seven essential before retreat. Could could describe each one of those little bit for people? Because Yeah. And can you just explain each one of these a little bit?
Because it’s going to be for people who don’t know anything Yeah. At all, and we want them to have as much Which is your kindness teacher. Kindness teacher. Kind teacher. Teacher.
Your kind you is Your root teacher. Your root teacher. Teacher and visualize similar Buddha, thinner offering, mandala. Mandala and, yeah, offering. How many times would you have to do that or over a long period of time?
One minute. One ten thousand. Ten thousand. We do Mantra. Mantra.
Oh, does this isn’t is this guru yoga? Yeah. One, guru yoga. Yeah. We we start.
You see it? Yeah. Mantra together. At this at when you’re doing this? Yeah.
When when you’re doing this one. This one, just visualize. Yeah. You know? Yeah.
Then doing mantra together. So it’s all part of this number one? Yeah. Yeah. Ten thousand.
Ten thousand. I think one lakh. It’s ten thousand, is it? What’d you call it? One lakh?
One luck. I’ve I’ve I’ve checked. Doesn’t matter. I can check if I know one luck. One one hundred Might be one hundred thousand.
Yeah. So Dawa requested that I could get all this information. It’s really important. I think they have all tab. But it’s good for Rinpoche to say how he did And who’s Rinpoche’s root crew?
King Zai Lama Sui. He’s he’s a lot of teacher, but we visualize all all one including Oh, so all of Rinpoche’s teachers? Yeah. When we As one. Yeah.
As one. Coming into Coming into and visualize. You know? Yeah. And Then watch next one.
New he’s done now. Yes. So It looks like in. And the is hard. They have hundred and And then we should thinking about past past what we do, negative just Mhmm.
And we just what they call now? Purify. Purify. And Indomite. Yeah.
And the present. Uh-huh. And. And. And future, we don’t want to do negativities.
Mhmm. Always. And this this is This is my part. I never know. Then this comes nectar.
Mhmm. And from Vajrasattva. From Vajrasattva. Down from the crown of the head and clean. Pure.
Pure purification. Yeah. Yeah. Eliminate. And then yeah.
And But that’s but this. Then we do mantra after we visualize Yeah. Mantra. A hundred mantra. A hundred?
Yeah. Yes. They’re called the hundred-syllable mantra. Have you heard of that?
Hundred mantra. I’m not sure. I’ll leave it on. I don’t think I’m going to Hundred syllable mantra. Hundred syllable?
Oh, syllable. Syllable. Alright. Sounds good. Yeah.
Good. So that how long did that that whole Vajrasattva one take? Recite mantra hundred one hundred thousand. It’s not not just one day. Each day Each face some hundreds.
Yeah. I understand. How long does that that takes years. Did during. During the retreat.
Takes years. Oh, yeah. It doesn’t doesn’t bother us. It’s a very long mantra. It’s got takes a long time.
Time. So does Rinpoche know how long he would have altogether taken over this one? Because Just roughly. Mhmm. One one year.
Yeah. Yeah. I saw. All the preliminary. All.
All. In one year. One year. So the whole seven? Yeah.
Whole. Nine or seven? It is nine. Nine? Yeah.
Mhmm. What did together. He’s doing retreat and preliminary together. Yeah. Yeah.
Good. Yeah. So he can finish saying some mantras. We have different level if we do it in a how to say it? Big and something.
Non preliminary and. And five preliminary and four preliminary, we have different label. What they call? Different label? Yeah.
Different more harder or Harder. Or so what? You’d have to do one before you do the next level? No. No.
We have if we do in preliminary, we have to — Rinpoche did nine preliminary. Mhmm. And some other people doing just five preliminary. Oh, I see. Yeah.
It’s different. Right. So he’s really done Yeah. A lot? Yeah.
Much? Yeah. Right. It’s different. I don’t know.
Different amounts? Yeah. So it must be a very intensive retreat that Rinpoche is doing. In intensive. No.
It doesn’t matter to anyone. No. No. Lot of work. Yeah.
Much he didn’t all he didn’t do all the all the nonpreliminary because his root lama, he give advice. It’s much important to to teaching student. Yes. And the Yeah. Advice.
Then he’ll teach when he’s doing he’s teaching together Uh-huh. In his student. Alright. So Rinpoche still continued to teach his students Yeah. During his retreat?
Yeah. Right? Right? He’s not retreat. Preliminary.
During preliminary time? Yeah. Yeah. Then I think he’s he’s done again. And we sit down five preliminary.
Mhmm. And then he he went down. He he liked to do a long retreat, but I was Yeah. I understand. Did he teach.
Yeah. So he’s following his advice. It’s more important To teach. To do teaching for the students. Yeah.
Yeah. It’s preliminary. That that became the preliminary, yeah, part of it. Yeah. That’s good.
So there’s flex there’s flexible yeah. Yeah. So guru yoga, Vajrasattva. One hundred thousand mandala offering. Refuge.
Just going for refuge. Go for refuge. One hundred thousand. One hundred thousand. Do they take very long?
They do. Down to going for Each one? Because the mandala and the how’s the word? It’s quite long. Each?
It’s long. Yeah. Quite long time. So for to do Mandala. And How long does it take to do Mandala one time?
Just one time. Mandala’s about a prayana because it’s of the goddess. Let me have a look. Heard and they’ll become interested through reading Rinpoche’s story, I hope. Yeah.
No. We offer it. Yeah. With. They take about ten minutes.
Mhmm. Ten minute, fifteen minutes. Mhmm. And then we visualize. First, we’re doing three times.
Mhmm. On right hand Yes. And three times. My left hand. So clockwise and anti clockwise.
Yeah. Then visualize. Yeah. That’s just something. Of course.
Thirty seven. Put in thirty seven. Do do do do. I don’t know. We’ll have to get we’ll get this little detail later.
Yeah. So the build up thirty sevens. Yeah. And we build up. So would Rinpoche do that more than one time a day?
Or Again. Only one time every day? Or what? He must do several times each day. First, he built up altogether one very much visualization, then next time very short.
Short. Yeah. You know? Right. Short and short.
Right. Yeah. Yeah. Right. So each each time is not so long.
What they call it? We do short and Do visualize when we’re doing this two times of this one, right hand and body, speech, and mind. Mhmm. You see? And all through in all sentient being and ourself and all sentient being.
Mhmm. Throw in somewhere. And this two Anti clockwise. Yeah. Yeah.
And When we do three times, this way, and blessing of body Buddha and bodhisattva and speech mind. Mhmm. Body body, speech mind. Mhmm. Mhmm.
Yeah. Blessing To come. To come inside. Right. Oh, dear.
Good. Thank you. Then we imagine all the universe and moon and precious precious universe. Mhmm. And moon and sun being built up.
Right. Lot of Yeah. Yeah. It’s usually rice, isn’t it? Yeah.
Rice. Rice and any Could be wheat or Wheat. Yeah. What we like. Probably.
If we actually, we if we have precious things, then we put in precious. Put it up. Right. Yeah. So you you might put if you had some June.
Yeah. June. Yeah. I don’t know if they’re. If we have we have precious things to be to rise and wait, whatever.
It’s not future. And if we have not either an arising, which then we can offering birth Ah, yes. And send, then this one not this one not important to not really. Basically, this one visualize and insight. So it doesn’t really matter Yeah.
It doesn’t really matter. What you’re using. Yeah. Because it’s Yes. It’s the visualizing.
Visualizing. And we when we’re offering mandala, we transform or blazing in mandala off mandala. Mhmm. Blazing in the Mhmm. Then transform.
Now we it’s it’s mental. It’s now it’s ordinary things. Then we transform all the emptiness and then offering in a imagining pure light. Visualize in the on Mandala. Not not just this universe.
Mhmm. We we other universe and hundreds and hundreds universe. And Yeah. Then we visualize in pure light. All of this universe.
All of all of this universe. Yeah. Then in pure light, they have. Yes. Yes.
Yeah. And yeah. Like that. So visualize all? Visualize all.
So that’s that’s mandala. What about for going for refuge? Can Rinpoche describe that in in detail? One time. Just one time.
First, we visualize in a our guru and and go there and put Buddhism for all on on the sky Mhmm. Like cloud. Mhmm. And we are adjusting our in a in a in a cycle exist. We we stay in a cycle exist.
cyclic existence. cyclic existence. It’s coming and going all the time, but birth and rebirth. Yeah. Yeah.
Pada. Pada. Pada? What’s pada? Father.
Uh-huh. It’s mother. And we wish last. Yeah. Just decide.
Side all the Beings. Male. Yeah. Male beings. Uh-huh.
This one this side and female being. Oh. And this one. It’s not. Oh, is it?
They are it’s taken. It’s taken from Chakpuri, is it? From the I think so. I think. Mhmm.
Yeah. I think it is. I think that must be taken up on Jackbury somewhere. No. No?
No. It’s not. I think it’s still there. Oh, the hill still there? Yeah.
Yeah. Chakore. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You you said medicine.
I thought that college is gone. But Oh, no. Yeah. Yeah. But there’s another monastery there.
Yeah. I don’t know. Don’t worry. It’s lovely, that monastery. Yes.
There’s I still remember that they already remember. They have doctor, many doctors. Yeah. Good. Deciding all fathers, deciding all mothers, you know, all all the sentient beings.
Then then I just like when people chanting this boss, like, then it’s a visualize we all suffer cycle suffering of cycle and existence. All all the fathers and then all the fathers. Beings. And then then we have we just request in in Bodhana and bodhisattva help and transforming that. Transforming that suffering.
The suffering. The cycle. Because every cycle exist. Then just I recite mantra, then you think about all the same all beings did recite mantra. Wishing that they would.
They’re wishing and I wish they all I imagine they all Oh, imagine that they’re all recite in mantra. Yeah. And resigned a hundred hundred thousand. Going for refuge, you put it down in Sunday? Put it down Sunday.
Mhmm. So about how long to do one of those practice? Just one. One. How long would it take, each one?
It doesn’t take long. Few There’s some when people doing ritual, then they’re different idea, different You have a glass of water? No. This one. Some people drink fast, finish, Guru Yoga.
Oh, I see. And some people then after they’re doing Vajrasattva, then after they’re doing mandala Yeah. Then some people doing all all together one day, just little bit little bit little bit. Yeah. Yeah.
And we did all together one day, just bit bit bit. Yeah. Little bit of each. Little bit each. Yeah.
Mhmm. Oh, yeah. I can understand that one. And what’s the fifth one he did? Nobody has.
Nobody shot that. So prostration. Oh. Could Ripache explain for the book, for people who don’t know, what prostration really means? All the, you know, you do like that, then inside and empty.
Mhmm. With your fingers and thumbs. Yes. Yeah. And This one is non-Buddhist prostration.
Yeah. And we do this one in if we just like that Cup fingers. Yeah. Cup fingers. The two thumbs.
Two thumbs inside. Inside the Then inside Four fingers. Four fingers. Well, the eight fingers make a little Yeah. And this one very precious things.
Precious? Precious things. We don’t put in empty inside the new Yeah. These two thumbs which lies in very precious. Yeah.
And what does that symbolize? Lotus? Or This one symbolize the Karigbeh Oceans. Karigbeh Oceans. Well, sometime, not now.
Maybe Rinpoche can give simple version because if Westerners read this and they just see someone prostrates, they don’t they think it’s a bit funny. Yeah. I don’t understand it. And one this one emptiness and. These fingers?
No. This hand. Yeah. And this hand. Right hand.
And then there, one, western emptiness. Left hand? Left. Oh, yeah. This one, western emptiness.
Symbolize with wisdom and emptiness. Yeah. Emptiness. And this one. Right hand.
bodhicitta. bodhicitta. bodhicitta. Yeah. For loving kindness.
Compassion. So they bring them together. Method. This one, method. This one, wisdom.
Oh, I see. So wisdom and method. Left hand’s wisdom and right hand’s method. Method. And Right.
Method Practice. Yeah. And wisdom emptiness. Right. Right.
And the ten finger and. Ten. Ten. Including the Yeah. Yeah.
Which We do practice we do practice ten paramitas with great vigor. Ten paramitas. Mhmm. And they sold part of the Shimla Yeah. In ten.
Preparation, I think. Ten preparation. Prepare I’m just looking at map again. This this is your dear khamsan. Is That one?
This. Oh. Who was where’s Samo? Samo the Amdo area. Amdo area.
Yeah. What’s it called? Simlo? Simlo? Simlo.
Simlo. I’ll get the better spelling better. So which is o comes in? Dukums in. That one that you’ve got written in.
Ah, that’s alright. That’s fine. And this one, small dukums in. Small one? Big, some dukums in.
Oh, big and small. Small dukums in. They have it’s one one group, but different Building. Building. Yeah.
So where did Rinpoche live? In the large khamtsen he was in. Big or small? In the large one. Not big one.
Yeah. Big. Right. Sixth The tenth perfection. So there’s not many khamsans.
Only a few khamsans, or is there many more he left out? This is just a map. In three months. He he write in all the khamsan, then we can’t Oh, right. So there’s many more.
Yeah. Yeah. That’s alright. And that’s Yeah. Yeah.
Okay. Fine. Did you find that word? Yeah. Ten the ten perfection.
Perfection. Ten perfections. We’re going back to the explanation of the finger snap. Yeah. And you thing.
Think think think I ten paramitas and the result Mhmm. Ten, the ten perfection. And the six perfections. This is. Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. Good. We’re doing like that. In the future, we come like Buddha, they have come.
Yeah. You’re coming out of the Coming out from like Buddha. So that’s the future Buddha. To become or Become Become in in a Manifest. In becoming Buddha in the future.
The the the person we would become. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. This one, hair.
Hair? Hair? Yeah. Ushnisha. This one, Yeah.
Ushnisha. This one, very long, and now they curl off. Yeah. The hair curls. Yeah.
The center the sort of the thought you threw it off a part. Yeah. They have two explanation. Oh. And and it’s not.
Buddha has they have very beautiful hair. Hair? Yeah. Here. Yeah.
Here. If it’s very hard to get — hard to — if we have not meditated, we can’t find here, like Buddha. We we achieve Buddha’s. Think it’s beautiful hair. Achieve a beautiful hair.
And yeah. Similars. Visualize. May I imagine in the future when when we get enlightened. And we do this one.
This symbolize Buddhist speech. Oh, so just a throat a throat here or there? This one. Yeah. Yeah.
And Buddha has very sixty very nice words. Right. And future, we achieved sixty word. So perfect sort of speech? Speech.
Speech. Speech. Speech. Mhmm. Sounds or words?
They have sixty words. When Yeah. When Buddha, he teach, he taught when he teach in a student, stabilize and it’s very Stabilize. Yeah. And it’s very What Pleasant sound.
Beautiful sound. Melodious. Good. Melodious and Yeah. Very it’s go very far.
Oh, carries a very long way. Yeah. And they have sixty different sixty imagine we can do. You may Mhmm. That we’ll carry like that and be Yeah, beautiful sound and What to all creatures or beings to hear?
We achieved. Oh, I see. Yes. We’ve achieved. Yes.
Yes. When if Buddha one just hit example for example, he taught one just Sanskrit. He taught just Buddha Buddha. Just he taught Buddha. Then the word Buddha.
Word Buddha. Yeah. Then Tibetan people, they heard Tibetan words Buddha. So hear that in Tibetan? That in Tibetan.
And Indian people, they heard Indian Indian language. Or whatever. And, yeah, and any country, any individual, what we speak language Hear the word in their own language. In their own language. If hundred percent we ask question, then Buddha they give, they send back answer, then impermanent, impermanent, Impermanent?
Yeah. He’s he he just he taught impermanent. Impermanent? Hundred percent, they’re all different question. Yeah.
You ask one time. Yeah. And then he just thought for example, they ask something about impermanent. Yes. Then he give impermanent about them, all the what they they wish in in the region, you know.
I see. So it might be hundred or a thousand people asking many different question, and he’ll give the answer. One answer, impermanent, then each person they what they need to understand from that answer. I see. Yeah.
So that’s come from Come from his speech. If we have very different wish, if some student they like impermanent, some student they like emptiness, some strain like that. Different. Different. Mhmm.
Then Buddha, teach just one teaching, then what they want. It’s like What come to come to what they wish. In that way? We achieved, like, Buddha emanation. Mhmm.
And he he he understand all the, you know, phenomena, Now we have a lot of spend in mind about all this. We we have not detailed. We will do detailed. We need to. We will.
Yes. Sometimes. Sometimes we will. Well, I’ll just get this down, and then we can go. See if we can have two weeks at least.
It’s terrible. It’s it’s it’ll be lots of yeah. This this would be good. Now I used to yeah. Yeah.
Posture. Full one? Yeah. Full one. Yeah.
Yeah. That has symbolism too, doesn’t it? Just fully fully going down. Yeah. Yeah.
So we’ll we’ll have to just do that sometime. Yeah. Good. This is Jen Gibson. I’m about to go to Buddha House to record with Khensur Rinpoche with Dawa translating, and it is Friday, the twenty seventh of October nineteen eighty nine.
Some Yeah. Yeah. Say that again, darling. Before this one, before the tenth event, Rinpoche has something else to say. Right.
Good. On the morning of tenth March, Rinpoche, Geshe Ngawang Dargye, and one disciple, one student, three of them went down to Lhasa City, and they went to see the famous Jowo statue of Buddha, called Jowo Rinpoche, and all the two, paid their respects, went to see them. After that, they went to see the Barkhor area in Lhasa, which is normally the circumambulation. So they circumambulate the inner? The inner one around the outer one.
The outer one? Maybe the inner one, when they are at the shops. Around Jokhang and all the shops. So, Barkhor normally literally means the inside or middle circumambulation. That’s what it means.
Yeah, Barkhor. In that one, normally there would be a lot of activity. There would be a lot of shops and small stores. But that day, there wasn’t any shops and people doing business. Everything was closed.
It was empty? Yeah, was closed. Just closed. Yeah. All the shops were closed, and when Rinpoche and the others, they were weren’t many people, just very few hanging around.
Just nearby, there were buildings occupied by Chinese, perhaps Chinese armies, barracks, branch offices, and on top of them there were Chinese with perhaps machine guns stolen and directed down to the public. Trained down on the crowds. The soldiers behind the guns, they would just pop their heads up and then hide back from their heads up. Chinese soldiers were on top of roofs of houses, so on top them, they would have guns pointed. Soldiers just popped their heads up, checked down in the public, and then again, hide back.
Nearby, there was an empty house, which normally during Monlam prayer festivals of one year monks would stay there for night. At that time, that house was empty, so Rinpoche and his other two Keshitagi and they went there. They bought some momo, momo, some rice, and some tea, and they just stayed there. This this at nighttime or daytime? Oh, in the morning.
In the morning. About ten o’clock. Then all of a sudden, there came out in the street, lot of women from women’s association. Tibetan lip. There is no no.
All of a sudden, a lot of women came out in the street, and Rinpoche says perhaps they were from Tibetan Women’s Association. And about three hundred, four hundred of them shouting slogans like, We want independence, Chinese, go back. This is the tenth or the ninth? No, tenth morning. Tenth morning?
Yeah, in the morning. At that time, Geshe Ngawang Tenzin remained in that house. Rinpoche went they went out into Barkhor to see how things were going. Normally, there would be a lot of what I call on the street corners and all over the street there would be a lot of poster signs, billboards written in Chinese and pictures. So these Tibetan women, they pulled apart all those signposts.
Pictures of Mao Zedong and all that. Mao and such. Some other pictures. So they pulled apart and destroyed all those. The women did?
Yeah. Tore them apart. And then destroyed. And then these women, they slowly went towards where the Chinese headquarters of barracks were.
When they went there, the Chinese soldiers on top of the roof threw stones and all sorts of things. There were so many women who got injured. I remember she saw all this. And then somehow people going to the Chinese headquarters barracks, people stopped going there. There wasn’t afterwards, there wasn’t anybody going towards that direction.
So Rinpoche and his friend also thought it’s not safe to go to that direction. Rinpoche went and his friend and the student went to one small tea shop at a tea, then went back to the house. The roommate and the student went back to the house, met, and then, again, all three of them returned back to Sera. Was this student one of Rinpoche’s students and Geshe Ngawang Dargye’s students? So that time, Chinese Day, you were making public announcements to call announce loudspeakers.
They were announcing, Oh, reactionary Tibet and self. Reactionary, did you say? No. Reactionary Tibet and self, hold the line in Norbulingka. We, the Chinese, would arrest the two main cabinet ministers called Surkhang and Phala.
They were saying we would arrest them, and we would make them eat their own flesh, drink their own blood in front of everybody. This over loudspeakers. Yeah. Over loudspeakers. Also, the Chinese were announcing China is like a big elephant, and this Tibet and its protest is like small ants.
Ants? Yeah. Small ants, what I call, disturbing, biting the feet of elephant. They just feel it’s a kind of it’s just something to laugh about Chinese. Were saying like that.
Was this in Chinese or in There are a lot of Chinese who could speak Tibetan, and also there are Chinese held by Tibetans held by Chinese and forced to act as interpreters and things like that. So it was in Tibetan? No. In the Tibetan language. Yeah.
Tibetan. Does Rinpoche speak any Chinese? Yes, when Rinpoche returned back to Sera, it was already about three o’clock in the afternoon. It took quite long. And they heard that there were Chinese in the morning and afternoon to arrest people coming from down city from Tulsa.
They heard in Sera. Chinese have come to Sera, it’s to arrest people coming from the city. But at the time Rinpoche was there, they’ve already gone. The Chinese had gone. So otherwise he could be in very serious trouble.
Oh, do continue. Yeah. Yeah. I’ll just change his tape to ending.
