About this talk. In this 17-minute talk, Geshe Jampa Gyaltsen offers a detailed line-by-line commentary on the Heruka mantra, beginning with Satam Sriyam and moving through each Sanskrit term to unlock its symbolic meaning. The teaching centers on understanding how each syllable connects to specific Buddhist concepts: the five types of wisdom, liberation from afflictive emotions, and the Vajrasattva practice for purification. Gyaltsen explains the core visualization — reciting the mantra as a request to Vajrasattva, receiving purifying nectars from the deity’s union, then dissolving into Vajrasattva’s subtle body and mind — which removes obstacles to Heruka meditation. The instruction culminates in meditating on emptiness as the final stabilizing focus. Aimed at practitioners already initiated into Heruka practice.

Then Then the next line of the mantra, Satam Sriyam. Satam means one’s mind. Sriyam means it’s glorious, translated as glorious means having complete completely all the excellent qualities. Complete. And then the the meaning of this is the Vajra mind.

With respect to mind, there are five types and this is where the symbolized by the next line, Ho, the five types of minds and this refers to the five types of wisdoms. The mirror like wisdom, the all accomplishing wisdom, the wisdom of distinguishing, the wisdom of equality, and in other words, And the wisdom of all knowing. I’m really I might have to check. Then the the next line, Bhagawan, is Bhagawan means literally, it means the endowed transcendental or destroyer.

Then Mama Mutra, all of the various afflictions, afflictive emotions, asking Heruka to liberate oneself from psychic existence, bad migrations, from afflictive obstructions, from knowledge obstructions. So Bala means in the sense of actual. You are actually. You are actually. Then the next line, Maha Samaya Satva.

Maha is great. Samaya is commitment. Satva is I usually just translate it as being. So is it simply is or a software is translated simply as being. A a b.

And then is speech Vajra, Hum is mind Vajra. He is order to get rid of all the various obstacles of the afflictive emotions, hindrances. During this practice we should think that we’re making requests to the Vajrasattva and that this request is made in the form of repetition of this mantra and that having recited the mantra that Vajrasattva is extremely pleased with us and as a consequence, nectars begin to descend from the union of male and female consorts of Vajrasattva. This eliminates all our negativities, obstructions, and completely purifies us. This purification is means by which we are eliminating any types of obstacles to the meditation of Heruka that we’re going to practice.

Eliminates all of the conflicting conditions, the negative conditions. It’s as if we’re just ready, just about to gain realizations. Everything is primed. We’re just ready to gain realizations. Upon purification we should imagine that Vajrasattva, male and female consort, dissolves into us and in general there are many levels of the coarseness and subtlety of the body, speech, mind.

We should imagine at this point that we have become inseparable entity with the subtle body, speech, and mind of Vajrasattva. Having done this we should imagine that all our negativities and obstacles having been purified that oneself and the object to which oneself, all the various negativities, and the object to which the negativities were committed are all in nature empty of true existence. Empty of natural existence and remain single pointedly in meditative equipoise with a sense of joy at this time. So today we’ve we it’s past 12:00, so we won’t have questions because it might be difficult for you. We won’t have questions today.
