About this talk. In this 24-minute session, Geshe Dhawa Gyaltsen identifies the main obstacles that prevent consistent practice: weakness in effort—pursuing practice for wealth or disciples rather than genuine liberation; laziness in multiple forms—mental indifference, attachment to comfort and sleep, distraction into idle gossip about worldly affairs, and neglect of daily commitments; and anger rooted in self-cherishing and inability to tolerate harsh words. He examines anger’s toll: it damages relationships and destroys the root of virtue, with particularly grave consequences when directed at teachers or those of higher realization. This is the first in a series on the Foundation of Practice.

This thing not accepting the apology. So it is like following the mind of anger that is letting that anger go away, but holding to that holding to that. So which is not not seeing the faults of anger and not applying any remedies or antidotes towards the anger, then you perceive that fault, following the angry mind or So now we go to the next one, which is those faults associated with effort. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
And there are three, which So so of the first one, which is weakness in in So which that that one in order to receive pain in order to receive pain and wealth gathering many disciples? So if one with the hope of getting some wealth that if you were to perform some things to others such as performing some rituals or putting questions and So next one. So so now next one, now going to the next one, which is, lack of lack of what? Which is So so the second one, which is lack of wealth or lack of resources. Which is So so well, which is not putting any effort because of laziness and which a part of laziness which, what is it, just indifferent state of mind when you are relaxing, relaxing point of mind or state of mind.
Or the pleasure of sleeping. So sleeping, which is right here, it was a long time which you accept those times like when you’re eating, when you’re swimming or when you’re having a shower, except those times like sleeping or the other times. So another one is like relaxing relaxing in the seat. What do you call that? Relaxing seat or something like that.
Anyway, what do you call that? Relaxing in the chair with just sitting there enjoying that pleasure relaxing, and not not putting any effort. So relaxing or enjoying this different state of pleasure, sleeping, and so on. That’s how we went through before. And like whole day and like day.
And not what is it? Not putting any effort not putting any effort and not putting any effort, let’s say, to to remove your laziness. Not not putting any effort to remove your laziness. That is what it called. That is that is that is the fault one of the fault.
Yeah. Mhmm. I didn’t like it. Ask somebody. So then the third one the third one which is getting attached to bad activities or wrong activities.
So that one is indulging or indulging in in gossip out of attachment. So which which is like getting attached to the, what is it, discussions about king, ministers, and thieves or robbery robbers and so on, like talking about about them and spending, like, a lot of time. I don’t like, spending a lot of time on these things. So so that that part is known as the deluded one. And but then if but then if what is it?
If one just forget doing doing one’s practice, So so then which if you forget during your daily practice, whatever that you have to do on the daytime, if you just forget bring it, then, again, you receive the downfalls, but it’s not. So, again, this part, again, there are few exceptions where you don’t see downfalls where if if you if if someone someone is, like, telling telling some important things towards you, and you spend your time on that. And then if you if you if you if you’re unable to the practices, whatever you wanna have to perform in on that day because of that reason, then, again, you can’t say downfall. And then there are few others too. Yeah.
That is actually from So we’ll stop here for tonight, and there’s two two two left which are the fault associated with concentration and also faults associated with the wisdom. Mhmm. And we do question and answer. So which one that is like seeing the faults again. So which is contemplating the faults of anger, which how do you say what what how do you say?
What damage it does temporarily. And and also what damage it does ultimately, which is temporarily, say, if one is feeling if one had an if one had anger among among the family, one before, because it’s strong great anger, then that brings that, I wanna say, that distance the friendship. And, also, not only that, it also destroys or damages the wealth, the projections, and thinking of the ultimate damage which it destroys the, what’s it, the root of virtue. The virtue it destroys the root of virtue and so on. So thinking of this.
Besides this, there are many other, what is it, faults of anger. So, yeah, so if one, what do say, practice anger, which yeah, or if one, yeah, if one practice anger then anger is what, what do say, brings all the, anger is what causes or what brings all the, what do call, unhappiness or unhappiness in the world. That is the that is what what is it? If we do practice the anger, then that is what causes the unhappiness all the unhappiness in the world. They are.
And and we do that because because of our self-cherishing mind. Because if if someone like that a harsh word was one, then then the eye which is unable to take it and getting it’s unable to tolerate and and and gets angry. So so and especially if the person whom we are getting angry towards, if that person is, I would say, if that person is, if that person has higher realization than one or if that person is more qualified than one, then then the negative negative that one received from that that feeling towards that person is much And some that because of different sickness also causes anger. And this is because of different karma. It’s a different karma.
Yeah. Okay. He’s just saying that he in the beginning, he’s ten minutes, and now he’s yeah. For, like, still five more minutes to go. So he he got five to get what do call?
Five minute profit. That’s ten minute profit for him. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Thank you. So we’ll stop.
